ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team dropped to 0-3 overall early on in the season Saturday, as they fell 10-5 to host SUNY Oneonta on the road in non-conference action in Oneonta.
Five different players notched scores for the Mustangs in the efforts. Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.), Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.), Mike Ready (Lafayette, N.Y.), Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) and Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.) each posted one, while Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added two assists.
Senior Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the loss, turning away 12, four in both the first and second quarters.
Oneonta held the 47-25 advantage in shots on the day, and edged the Mustangs in the ground ball battle, 24-20.
David Gullen (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls for Morrisville State, with fellow defenseman Brendan Boles (Goshen, N.Y.) caused two turnovers.
Oneonta took an early 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest on an unassisted tally, before Dovi evened the score for the Mustangs putting home the feed from Peters midway through the quarter.
Morrisville State's offense struggled to find the back of the net over the next two quarters, as Oneonta rallied for six straight for the 7-1 lead after three quarters of action.
The Mustangs finally broke through at the 11:28 mark in the fourth as Fisher collected the unassisted goal, breaking the nearly 40 minute drought, before Cline added another with 7:01 to go.
Geswaldo posted his fifth of the season on the man-up opportunity at 6:24 off the dish from Peters, before Ready notched the Mustangs fifth of the day at 2:27 to make it a five goal game.
That's as close as Morrisville State would get though, as Oneonta collected the victory.
Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, opening their home schedule with a non-conference bout with Oswego at 1 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville.
