MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team opened the 2018 home slate with a 9-6 loss to visiting SUNY Oswego on a snowy cold Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
The Mustangs have yet to find the win column, falling to 0-4 at the start of the season.
Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with two scores, while four additional teammates registered goals, including Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.) who notched one to go along with two assists.
Trevor Jones (Lafayette, N.Y.) collected two points, netting one goal, and assisting another, while Zach Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.) and Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.) added one apiece.
Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the loss between the pipes despite a 17 save effort that included eight stops in the third quarter.
Robbie Conners paced Oswego with three goals, while teammates Caleb Alford and Kyle Bacon each collected two.
Kevin O'Donnell recorded the win with nine saves, three in the fourth quarter.
Morrisville State posted the first score of the afternoon at the 12:41 mark of the opening quarter as Dovi connected with Peters for the bounce shot past O'Donnell.
Oswego, though, put together a three goal rally for the 3-1 lead, including two within 40 seconds of one another.
Morrisville State would get one back midway through the second quarter, but again Oswego added another tally to send the game into the break with a 4-2 Laker lead.
A quick tally by the Lakers gave the visitors a three goal lead, but Morrisville State struck twice over two minutes to cut the deficit to one early in the third.
The Lakers posted three straight to widen the gap to four just four minutes into the final frame, but the Mustangs wouldn't go away quietly as Dovi flung the quick stick shot over the shoulder of O'Donnell off the right side crease feed from Jones.
Bacon collected his second minutes later to regain the four goal advantage for Oswego, but a Palin tally made it a three goal game with just over four minutes remaining on the clock.
Morrisville State attempted to continue its rally, but struggled to get a good look at the goal as Oswego picked up the non-conference win.
The Mustangs return to the field Wednesday, traveling to Scranton for a non-league matchup.
