WILKES-BARRE, PA – Visiting Morrisville State College men's lacrosse put together a come-from-behind rally late in the fourth quarter as they notched three unanswered tallies to top host Kings College by a 11-10 final Thursday afternoon in Wilkes-Barre.
The win is the first for the Mustangs on the year, as they improve to 1-6 overall. Kings drops to 2-4.
Morrisville State trailed 7-5 entering the fourth quarter before the Mustangs cut the deficit to one nearly two minutes in off a Trevor Jones (Lafayette, N.Y.) score. The hosts regained the lead with an unassisted tally three minutes later, before back-to-back tallies evened the contest at eight.
Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.) netted his fifth of the season off a feed from Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) at the 9:53 mark, before Geswaldo rifled one himself into the back of the net, 48 seconds later to even the game for the fourth time.
Kings responded with two straight to regain the two goal advantage with 7:31 to go, but Morrisville State's Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) cut the deficit to one with an unassisted score at the 5:48 mark, and followed with the game tying tally at 3:03.
The hosts gained possession of the ball of the ensuing face-off, but long stick defenseman, Chad Temple (Minoa, N.Y.) caused the turnover and the Mustangs were successful on the clear to their offensive zone.
As time was winding down, Peters collected his third straight, and ninth of the season, with 1:19 to go, powering his way to cage to put the Mustangs ahead 11-10.
Kings won the face-off at the center X, but once again the Mustangs defense came up big as Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) caused the turnover and Temple collected the ground ball for the successful clear.
Peters finished with four goals on the day, adding an assist for five team points. Geswaldo added three, also assisting two, while Jones collected two goals.
Zach Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.) and Dovi rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes, registering 14 total stops.
Temple finished with three ground balls for the Mustangs, along with Peters.
Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, hosting Potsdam State for a 3 p.m. non-conference bout before getting underway with North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play next Wednesday against Hilbert.
