BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team overwhelmed host Medaille College Saturday afternoon as they tallied 16 first half scores en route to a 19-3 final decision in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Dobson Field at D'Youville College in Buffalo.
The Mustangs remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0, and pull their overall record to 6-7 on the season. Medaille drops to 1-5, 0-3 within NEAC play.
Eleven different Morrisville State players netted goals, including Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) and Geoffrey Field (Glen Cove, N.Y.) who each posted hat tricks behind their three tallies. Biggs also dished out three assists for a six point outing.
Logan Peters (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) notched two goals to go along with his team high five assists.
Morrisville State out gunned the hosts 50-10 in shots, and won the ground ball battle 52-23, in part due to their continued dominance at the center x, as they won 19-of-25 face-offs.
Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) led the way in ground balls for the Mustangs, picking up six as he won 7-of-9 from the center start, while freshman Nate McCormick (Cortland, N.Y.) added five in his 5-for-8 effort in face-offs. Josh Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.) contributed to the success at center, winning 7-of-8 starts.
Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the win appearing for the opening 29 minutes of play, before Paul Gates (West Winfield, N.Y.) appeared for the next 20 minutes, making two stops.
Brendan Gibson (Kirkville, N.Y.) completed the game for the Mustangs between the pipes, appearing for the final 10.
Morrisville State notched their first of eight opening quarter scores just 38 seconds into the game, as Peters collected the tally off the feed from Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.). Joe Piedigrossi (Cortland, N.Y.) quickly made it a 2-0 game with his extra man score, before the Mustangs rattled off another six, including three in the final minute of the quarter to claim an 8-0 lead after one.
Biggs had a hand in all three tallies in the final minute, assisting a Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.) score with 58 seconds to go, before netting back-to-back strikes within eight seconds time, both off assists from Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.).
The Mustangs scoring streak continued into the second frame, where they added eight more, a third from Biggs, and two from freshman Rory Matz (Port Jervis, N.Y.), carrying the 16-0 lead into the halftime break.
Medaille notched both tallies in the third quarter and added another early in the fourth, but Morrisville State regained the 16 goal lead with three more in the middle of the final frame to claim the 19-3 win.
Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to Cazenovia for a 4 p.m. Route 20 showdown on the Wildcats home field.
