MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team cruised to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win Saturday afternoon, handing the visiting SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers a 20-1 loss on Drake Field in Morrisville.
Twelve different Mustangs posted scores on the day to keep the hosts undefeated in conference action at 7-0, while improving to 8-7 overall on the season.
The duo of Brad Biggs (Tully, N.Y.) and Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) posted hat tricks on the day, netting three scores each, while Geswaldo added an assist for a four point outing.
Joe Piedigrossi (Cortland, N.Y.), Mike Ready (Lafayette, N.Y.), Bryan Cline (Cicero, N.Y.) and Zach Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.) each added two goals to contribute to the win.
Dan Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) recorded three stops in the win, allowing no Cobleskill goals in 37 minutes of action. Paul Gates (West Winfield, N.Y.) appeared for 17 minutes in net, stopping two and allowing the lone Fighting Tiger score, before Brendan Gibson (Kirkville, N.Y.) finished out the final six minutes of play, making two stops.
Morrisville State held the 54-18 advantage in shots, and won the ground ball battle as they tripled up Cobleskill, 39-13. Seniors Eric Fisher (Nutley, N.J.) and Trevor Jones (Lafayette, N.Y.) each picked up four ground balls to lead the Mustangs.
The Mustangs continued their dominance on the face-off, winning 20-of-24 at the center X, seven wins each coming from Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) and Josh Palin (Lafayette, N.Y.). Nate McCormick (Cortland, N.Y.) contributed five wins.
Morrisville State opened the contest with six goals in the opening quarter, including two from Cline, before the Mustangs added to their lead with five additional scores in the second for the 11-0 halftime advantage.
The Mustangs maintained momentum in the third, extending their lead to 14-0 before Cobleskill was able to get one on the board, hitting the top left corner over Gates stick.
That's the lone score the hosts would allow though, as they collected an additional six more to add to their offensive game, en route to the 20-1 win.
Prior to the contest the Mustangs honored their 2018 senior class. The hosts wore commemorative jersey's to raise donations for The Gary Sinise Foundation, and were joined in attendance by members from the New York Fire Department Ladder 59 and New York Fire Department Engine 43.
Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to SUNY Polytechnic for a 7 p.m. face-off on the Poly campus.
