Morrisville State men remain untouched in NEAC play, pull overall record even with win over Hilbert  

 

TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Morrisville State men's lacrosse team pulled their overall record to 6-6 Wednesday afternoon as they handed host Hilbert College a 24-15 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision in Tonawanda, improving their conference slate to an unblemished 5-0.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State opened with an 8-1 lead after the opening quarter, and after playing even in the second, poured in nine goals in the third quarter as they downed host Hilbert College by a 24-15 final score at SJCI in Tonawanda Wednesday afternoon.
  • Senior attackman Nick Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) led all scorers with nine points, dumping in seven goals for the Mustangs, while teammate Joe Rosaschi (Syracuse, N.Y.) added a hat trick with this three goals and assist.
  • Chad Warren (Lafayette, N.Y.), Joe Piedigrossi (Cortland, N.Y.) and Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y.) each added two goals apiece, with Dovi collecting three assists in the win.
  • Senior Shawn Walberger (Fulton, N.Y.) went 21-for-36 from the center x, leading the Mustangs with nine ground ball pickups, while sophomore defenseman Chad Temple (Syracuse, N.Y.) added eight to the Morrisville State efforts that found the visitors with the 43-35 edge in the battle on the ground.
  • Niko Cejic (Johnson City, N.Y.) collected nine stops in the win between the pipes, pulling his individual record even at 4-4.
  • Morrisville State got off to a slow start in the opening quarter and didn't find the back of the net until the 11:53 mark when Geswaldo posted the unassisted tally to give the visitors the 1-0 advantage. His tally kicked off a five goal run by the Mustangs midway through the first.
  • Hilbert posted their first of the contest with 4:44 showing in the first, but the Mustangs closed out with a three goal streak to end the quarter.
  • With the battle heating up in the second, Hilbert was able to notch their second just one minute in, but for every score they had, Morrisville State had an answer and sent the game into the halftime period with a 13-6 Mustang lead.
  • The third quarter belonged to the Mustangs, who opened with two scores in the first minute of the frame, and following a Hilbert tally, went on a seven goal frenzy to open the contest to a 15 goal advantage, a deficit that despite a rally in the fourth, Hilbert was unable to overcome.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the field on the 24th, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill for a 4 p.m. NEAC match-up before wrapping up the regular season against rival Keuka College on the 27th.
