MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's soccer team rolled to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon, topping visiting SUNY Polytechnic by a 4-2 final score on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 2-1-0 overall, as they capture their first NEAC win of the year. SUNY Poly drops to 0-4 on the year, 0-1 in conference play.
Morrisville State set the tone early on, netting the first score of the contest just four minutes in as Ousman Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) collected the loose ball off the corner kick from Joe Sheehan (Liverpool, N.Y.) for the 1-0 Mustang lead.
In the 19th minute, Morrisville State struck again, this time as Sheehan fed wide open Jamieson McKoy (Basseterre, St. Kitts) with the thru ball for the one-timer into the left side of the net for the 2-0 advantage.
SUNY Poly was able to notch a goal with just one second to go in the half, as Tanner Wiley headed a bobbled ball off a Mustang defender into the net to cut the Mustang lead to 2-1 after the first period.
In the 52nd minute, Julian Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped the ball up field to a waiting McKoy who rifled the ball past Wildcat keeper Patrick Anunziatta for the 3-1 Morrisville State lead.
Morrisville State added another at the 69:37 mark for a commanding three goal advantage, as Alan Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) dribbled through the Poly defense to the post and found a wide open Sheehan in the six meter box for the one-timer. Sheehan finished with a goal and two assists.
Poly, as with the first half, posted their final score late in the game, converting the free kick from Wyatt Snell into a score as Tyler Labbe connected with the ball on a scramble in front of net.
Mick Keilen (Berlin, N.Y.) posted the win in net for Morrisville State, saving one.
Anunziatta registered four saves in the loss in 62 minutes of action, before being replaced by Mingoro Fanny for the final 28. Fanny had no saves.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill. Cobleskill collected their first NEAC win of the year, defeating Cazenovia 1-0 this afternoon.
