Gaines named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office has announced its weekly award winners in the sport of men's soccer, naming Morrisville State junior Tyler Gaines (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) the Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 16.

Gaines assisted the Mustangs to their first conference win on the season, as they defeated Keuka Saturday in an overtime thriller in his first start in net. In the contest, Gaines collected seven saves across 93:37 minutes of action recording the shutout victory.

Earlier in the week, he made his first appearance in net (after moving from his normal field position of defender) in the second half of action against Buffalo State, conceding one goal, while collecting two saves.

The junior transfer finished with a .900 save percentage for the week, a 0.65 goals against average, a 1-0-0 record, and a shut out while playing 139 minutes in net.

A graduate of Hoosick Falls High is majoring in agricultural science at Morrisville State. He is the son of Calli and Ben Gaines of Hoosick Falls.
