Lancaster Bible slips past Morrisville State men

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – After nearly 89' of scoreless play for host Morrisville State, the Mustangs netted their first score of the game with 21 seconds left in regulation. But it wasn't enough to overcome a 2-0 deficit as visiting, Lancaster Bible College collected their fourth straight win on Sunday afternoon on Drake Field.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Both teams headed into halftime with the score deadlocked at 0-0 after 45' of scoreless action. Morrisville State posted 7 shots in the first half, while Lancaster Bible posted just 4.
  • Chad Tolson put the Charger's on the scoreboard first at the 46:08 mark, putting the ball past Morrisville State's goalkeeper, Cody Welkley (North Rose, NY) off a cross from Jared Jordan.
  • The Mustangs had several chances in the second half to even the score. With less than 5' to play, freshman forward, Toyi Hakizmana (Rochester, NY) broke through two Lancaster Bible defenders and shot the ball just inches wide to the left side of the goal. At the 2:00 mark, Hakizmana took a corner kick, crossing the ball to a waiting Daniel Sparkowski (East Meadow, NY) who one-touched the ball and missed the goal just inches to the right.
  • Tolson netted his second score of the day with just 36 seconds left to play to increase the Charger's lead to by two goals.
  • Hakizmana scored with just 21.3 seconds remaining to cut Lancaster Bible's lead to just one, but time expired before the Mustangs could notch another goal.
  • Tyler Gaines (Hoosick Falls, NY) recorded two saves in 45' of action, while Welkley posted 5 saves in the second half of play for the Mustangs.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Mustangs are back in action Wednesday when they host non-conference opponent, SUNY Geneseo, with the game slated to start at 4:00pm.
