Gardiner’s second half hat tricks leads Morrisville State men to 3-0 win over SUNY Poly  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Jack Gardiner (Florida, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate hat trick of his young career Saturday afternoon, with all scores coming in the second half in a span of seven minutes, as host Morrisville State men's soccer toppled visiting SUNY Poly 3-0 in a critical North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) matchup on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • After playing to a scoreless first half, Morrisville State's Jack Gardiner (Florida, N.Y.) was able to put the hosts on the board first, burying the one-touch off the feed from the right wing William Lynch (Island Trees, N.Y.) in the 52nd minute of action.
  • Just over two minutes later Gardiner collected his second tally on the clean up after the SUNY Poly goalkeeper knocked down the Kossi Nodjo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) cross from the right but failed to control the ball.
  • The freshman registered the hat trick in the 59th minute of play, heading home the penalty corner kick from Toyi Hakizimana (Rochester, N.Y.) for the 3-0 host lead.
  • Cody Welkley (North Rose, N.Y.) recorded the shutout victory, stopping a game total four, with two of his saves coming in the final 14 minutes of play.
  • Morrisville State held the slim 12-10 advantage in shots on the day.
  • Prior to the contest, Morrisville State honored their lone senior, captain Odaine Jackson.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the soccer pitch tomorrow, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill for a rescheduled contest that was postponed due to inclement weather earlier in the season. The match up will be critical for the Mustangs in post-season seeding for the conference tournament.
