Morrisville State men battle back from early deficit to capture overtime win over Cobleskill  

 

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Morrisville State men's soccer concluded the 2018 regular season Sunday afternoon with a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road battle against SUNY Cobleskill held at the Oneonta campus, defeating the Fighting Tigers in thrilling fashion by a 2-1 overtime score.

  • Records: Morrisville State 9-8-1 (8-3 NEAC), Cobleskill 9-91 (6-4-1 NEAC)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Cobleskill took an early 1-0 lead off a defensive deflection within the box at the 24:33 mark and maintained that advantage for over 50 minutes.
  • In the 77th minute of play, Toyi Hakizimana (Rochester, N.Y.) launched the ball on a free kick from midfield into the box where sophomore captain Daniel Sparkowski (East Meadow, N.Y.) got a head on the ball and found the back of the net for the game tying score.
  • Both teams had a chance down the stretch to score the game winner, but came up empty to force the extra time.
  • Just 6:40 into the overtime period, Morrisville State was awarded a corner kick and Hakizimana placed the ball perfectly into the box where Kossi Nodjo (New York City, N.Y.) was able to clean up the scrum on the goal line for the game winner.
  • Cody Welkley (North Rose, N.Y.) posted the win in net, his sixth of the season, making eight stops.
