MARCY, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team concluded the 2017 season Sunday afternoon on the road at SUNY Poly, dropping the pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests by final scores of 7-0 and 8-4.
In game one, SUNY Poly scored one in the bottom of the first inning off a single through short, before rallying in the bottom of the third for five unanswered runs to take the 6-0 lead.
They capped off the day with a triple down the right line in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 7-0 win.
Morrisville State collected nine hits in the first of the day's action, two each from Nicole Chiappetta (Trumball, Conn.) and Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) who went 2-for-3 from the plate.
Liz Miller (East Greenbush, N.Y.) also recorded a hit, a single to center field, her 100th of her career.
Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.) allowed five earned runs in six innings pitched for the loss.
In the second, Morrisville State took a 2-0 lead after two innings, as Chiappetta hit a single to center field to score Kaitlyn Curvin (Delanson, N.Y.) who reached on a walk.
Miller recorded an RBI in the top of the second with her single to center field to score Dillabough, who reached after poking a double to right field to lead off the inning.
Morrisville State maintained the two run lead until the bottom of the third inning when Poly rallied for six runs behind five hits.
After a two run homer in the bottom of the fourth by the hosts, Morrisville State was able to get one back in the top of the fifth as Elizabeth Marr (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded the RBI with her single to right field to score Holly Gamlen (Cazenovia, N.Y.). Marr finished 3-for-4 from the plate to lead the Mustang efforts.
They added a final run in the top of the seventh as Gamlen scored off the single to right field by Jada Faye Bennett (Manhattan, N.Y.) for the 8-4 final.
Erika Kenney (Duanesburg, N.Y.) recorded one strikeout in the loss, throwing the complete game.
Morrisville State concludes the season at 6-26 (6-18 NEAC).
