SUNY Poly stages come-from-behind victory in series sweep over Morrisville State  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Polytechnic softball collected the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) double-header sweep over host Morrisville State College Monday afternoon, posting finals of 3-0 and 8-5.

The Mustangs held the Wildcats scoreless until the top of the third inning as they plated one behind a single to second. They added to their lead in the top of the sixth with a score off two consecutive hits, before wrapping up game one with a third and final score on a double to left field.

Morrisville State collected three hits at the plate, including one from Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.), who went 1-for-2 in the contest. Claire Newman (Burlington, Ontario) and Emily Vesely (Johnson City, N.Y.) each were 1-for-3, both singles.

Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) recorded the loss, throwing a complete game and collecting three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Poly scored early, but Morrisville State responded with four runs in the bottom of the opening inning, and maintained that lead until the top of the seventh when the Wildcats plated three to collect the 8-5 win.

The Mustangs outhit Poly 10-9, three that came off the bat of Kennedy who recorded three singles, two a foot race down the first base line on bunts.

Newman also had a multi-hit afternoon, going 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Allyson Kowalczyk (Hinesdale, Mass.) added two RBI's on her single down the right line in the bottom of the first.

McGuire collected one strike out in the loss, allowing three earned runs in a complete game on the mound.

Morrisville State returns to the field Friday, hosting SUNY Cobleskill in their home finale.
