KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College softball team wrapped up the less than cooperative spring season Sunday afternoon on the road as they fell in double-header North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action to Keuka College.
Morrisville State, who battled a variety of weather systems throughout the spring season including rain and snow in today's double, fell 10-4 in game one, and 11-0 in the night cap in Keuka Park.
In the first of the day's action, Keuka led 5-0 after six innings before the Mustangs rallied in the top of the sixth for four runs to cut the deficit to one.
Emily Vesely (Johnson City, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line for two RBI's as Claire Newman (Burlington, Ontario) and Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) plated two.
Vesely then scored an unearned run after Leah Gamlen (Cazenovia, N.Y.) reached on error with the bases loaded. Amanda Labe (Friedensburg, Pa.) followed with a single up the middle to score lead runner Jada Faye Bennett (Manhattan, N.Y.).
Keuka, though, responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning off three hits up the middle and one down the left line to extend their lead and earn the win.
Kennedy went 2-for-4 to lead the Mustangs from the plate, while Vesely was 1-for-3. Kennedy threw the loss, allowing three earned runs, while striking out three.
In the nightcap, the Wolves posted three runs in the bottom of the opening inning and the Mustangs were able to hold the fight until the bottom of the third when the hosts plated eight enroute to the 11-0 five inning win.
Allison McGuire (Gilboa, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing three innings and allowing nine earned runs, before being relieved by Kennedy for the final inning.
