Morrisville falls in NEAC doubleheader at SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y. – The Morrisville State softball team was beaten twice in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Monday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 8-2, falling to host SUNY Poly.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Mustang offense struggled to get going in game one; the visitors stepped up to the plate sixteen times in five innings without collecting a hit.
  • Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) threw the loss for the Mustangs in the first of the day, allowing eight runs, three earned, on eight hits and striking out three.
  • Morrisville State managed to get the bats going in game two, stringing together seven hits on twenty-six at-bats. Ciera Sprague (Elmira, NY) led the Mustangs, going 2-for-4 from the plate and scoring both of Morrisville State's runs.
  • Kennedy, Emily Vesely (Johnson City, NY), Paige Williams (Machias, NY) and Chelsea Smith (Madrid, NY) all posted hits for the Mustangs.
  • Kellina Murphy (Yonkers, NY) pitched all six innings in the loss on the mound for the Mustangs. The freshman pitcher allowed eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and struck out three batters in the nightcap.

Morrisville State will return to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play today, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill for a doubleheader, with games expected to start at 3:30pm and 5:00pm.
