MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Polytechnic women's basketball outscored host Morrisville State 19-13 in the final quarter Thursday night to capture the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest with a 73-67 final on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.
Despite a career high from freshman point guard Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) the Mustangs were unable to hold on for the win in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, dropping to 12-10 overall and 10-4 in NEAC play.
Campbell led all scorers with 24 points, 17 of which came in the first half, as she drained 5-of-11 from behind the arc, while adding an assist and four steals to her tallies.
Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) added 10 points to go along with eight rebounds in the Morrisville State efforts, with teammates Savannah Hobbie (South Kortright, N.Y.) and Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) dominating the boards with 10 and 11 respectively.
Kristaijah Jackson led the Wildcats with 19 points and seven rebounds, adding four steals, as three additional teammates contributed double digits in scoring in the win, including Kiersten Leos who added 13.
Morrisville State let a three-point lead with 3:10 to go in the final quarter slip away, as Jackson cut the deficit to one for the visitors, and Leos drained a three with 1:44 to go in the contest for the two-point lead.
Leos extended the lead to four with 29 ticks remaining with two free throws and after a missed layup opportunity by the Mustangs on the opposite end, found herself back at the free throw line where she sealed the win, converting two more with 14 seconds left.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, traveling to Wells College.
