CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Tori Rockefeller (Bloomville, N.Y.) paced a determined Morrisville State women's basketball team with a game high 26 points Tuesday night as they toppled host Cazenovia College 80-64 in Cazenovia.
The Mustangs, with the win, improve to 12-4 within North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) standings, 14-10 overall.
Rockefeller drained 9-of-17 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc, while adding three assists and three steals to lead the Mustangs on the night. Senior Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) added 15 to go along with six rebounds, while teammate's Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Charlotte Walker (Middle Island, N.Y.) each contributed 10.
Miranda Wright (Sherburne, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with seven rebounds, as Cazenovia held the slim 43-41 advantage on the boards.
Strong second and third quarter play assisted the Mustangs in getting past the Wildcats, after opening with a 16-15 host lead after the first.
Campbell's layup off a Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) steal seconds into the second quarter kicked off a 20-4 Mustang run over the following five minutes to open the game to a 15 point Morrisville State lead.
Cazenovia was able to cut the deficit to single digits by halftime, but Morrisville State carried the 38-31 lead into the break.
In the third, the hosts converted their opening possession into a layup to cut the Mustang lead to five, but eight straight points by the visitors senior center, Woodard, regained the double digit lead and put Morrisville State on a 13-0 run.
Morrisville State increased their lead to 21 by the end of the third, and didn't look back in the final frame as they collected the 80-64 conference win.
The Mustangs will wrap up regular season action on the road Thursday at Buffalo State College. They will await tournament information as announced by the NEAC office this weekend.
