Morrisville State women drop heartbreaker to Buffalo State in regular season finale  

 

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Visiting Morrisville State College women's basketball dropped a heartbreaking 69-67 loss to host Buffalo State College Thursday evening, as the Bengals staged a fourth quarter comeback in the Mustangs regular season finale.

The Mustangs drop to 14-11 and will await post-season announcements from the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office this weekend.

Freshman Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts with 18 points, adding five rebounds, five assists and six steals.

Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) and Tori Rockefeller (Bloomville, N.Y.) each netted 14 in the loss, combining for seven rebounds, seven assists and seven steals, while teammate Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) wrapped up the Mustang leaderboard with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Morrisville State held the 56-51 advantage entering the third quarter, and went up by eight at the 7:35 mark of the fourth on a three by Campbell, before Buffalo State went on a 13-0 run to gain the six-point lead with 3:17 to go in the frame.

Woodard posted six straight points for the Mustangs to cut the Bengal lead to two with 44 ticks to go in the contest, and after a steal, was unable to convert their final attempt to tie as the hosts collected the win.

Morrisville State will learn its fate in the post-season conference tournament, as selections will be announced by the conference office late this weekend.
