Route 20 Rivalry comes down to the wire, Morrisville State women net 69-67 win over Cazenovia  as Walker collects 1000th career point

 

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Morrisville State women's basketball team picked up a huge 69-67 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win Wednesday evening, as the Route 20 Rivalry came down to the wire in the closing seconds with Cazenovia College on the Wildcats home court in Cazenovia.

Senior Charlotte Walker (Middle Island, N.Y.) collected her 1000th collegiate tally in the win, leading the Mustangs with 18 points.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State outscored Cazenovia 23-19 in the third quarter, including a three-ball from Sierra Henry as time expired in the frame to send the Mustangs into the final quarter with a 51-48 advantage.
  • Both teams exchanged leads throughout the quarter until 44 seconds remaining on the clock when senior forward Charlotte Walker (Middle Island, N.Y.) collected a layup to give the Mustangs the one point advantage in the contest.
  • Cazenovia forced Morrisville State to the free throw line on each of their next two possessions, where they converted 3-of-4 attempts, before the hosts nailed a three-pointer with four ticks to go to cut the Mustangs lead to just one.
  • Tori Rockefeller (South Kortright, N.Y.) sealed the win for the visitors, hitting the back end of two from the charity stripe with three seconds showing on the clock.
  • Walker led the Mustang efforts with 18 points, hitting her 1000th collegiate point on her first layup of the contest in the opening quarter. Walker added three rebounds and three assists to her tallies.
  • Rockefeller, along with teammate Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) added 17 points each, combining for 11 total rebounds, seven assists and eight steals.
  • Henry added eight off the bench.
  • Savannah Hobbie (South Kortright, N.Y.) collected 10 rebounds for the visitors as they outgained Cazenovia 44-41 on the glass.
  • Walker was the second Mustang this season to notch 1000 points. Rockefeller reached the mark on February 5.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, traveling to Keuka College to wrap up the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Keuka Park.
