Mustang Women Defeat SUNY Canton 3-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey Team picked up a 3-2 Colonial Hockey Conference victory on Friday evening, defeating SUNY Canton on the road.

The Mustangs and the Roos skated to a scoreless tie through the first period.  Morrisville edged SUNY Canton in shots on goal and neither team was able to convert on two power play opportunities each.

Morrisville got on the board first, four minutes into the second period when Kelley Graham (Mississauga, Ontario) found the back of the net.  Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) and Kali Rutka (Anchorage, Alaska) both tallied assists on the play.

The Roos responded three minutes later when Jessica Pele picked up the power play goal for SUNY Canton, tying the game up at one goal apiece.  However, Graham snatched the lead back for the Mustangs 41 seconds later.  Strymecki aided with the assist.

The Mustangs continued to pound the Roos' net throughout the second period.  Bailey Dillabough (Massena, N.Y.) found Kanekaroroks McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec) for Morrisville's third goal of the game, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of the Mustangs.

SUNY Canton fought back late in the second period as they converted another power play goal.  Tess Adams scored for the Roos, while Noelle Niemiec and Pele notched the assists. 

The Mustangs entered the third period with a 3-2 advantage over their hosts.  Morrisville was able to hold that advantage for the win.

The Mustangs will finish up their CHC series at SUNY Canton tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM.  Coach Lomanto's squad will make their official home debut on Friday, November 20 against Daniel Webster.  The first faceoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
