MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – After topping Daniel Webster 10-0 Friday evening in the first game of their Colonial Hockey Conference series, the Mustangs Women's Ice Hockey team upped their game on Saturday afternoon, posting an 11-0 win.
The Mustangs started a little slower on Saturday afternoon, picking up just one goal in the first period. Kelley Graham (Mississauga, Ontario) tallied the first goal of the game. Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Idaho) and Ciara Lark (Mildmay, Ontario) assisted on the play.
The second period proved to be a different story for Morrisville as they pounded Daniel Webster's goalie with 26 shots on goal. The reward for the Mustangs was eight goals in the period, including a period hat trick by Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.). Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) added two goals in the second period, while Graham, Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ontario), and Kristen Iattarelli (Kinnelon, N.J.) picked up one goal apiece.
The Mustangs capped off their scoring affair in the third as deWilde scored for the second time in the game with sixteen minutes left in the game. Thirty second later, Strymecki picked up the 11th and final goal for Morrisville, giving her the team's second hat trick of the game.
Taylor Pincheon (Corinth, N.Y.) picked up her first career win in goal for the Mustangs as well as her first career shutout. Pincheon saved all six shots she faced.
Morrisville State celebrated the inaugural season of women's ice hockey with a pre-game ceremonial puck drop. The Mustang captains were joined by Morrisville State College President Dr. David Rogers, Faculty Athletic Representative Alan Levinsohn, and Athletic Director Greg Carroll for the ceremony.
The Mustangs will travel to Utica College on Tuesday night for a 7 PM non-conference game before returning home to host Sacred Heart on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29. Game times are 6 PM and 12:30 PM respectively.
