MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustang women suffered another 3-1 loss on Friday night, this time to the hands of the visiting Cougars from Chatham College.
The visitors got on the board first as they took advantage of a Morrisville penalty eight minutes into the opening period. Jillian Rowland took a pass from Marissa Janiga at the blue line and ripped a one-timer just over Renee Schmaltz's (Beaumont Alberta) right shoulder for the power play goal.
Chatham carried their 1-0 lead into the second period, but Kelley Graham (Mississauga, Ontario) got free on a breakaway four minutes in and faked the Cougars goalie before finding the back of the net. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Chatham got free on their own breakaway thirteen minutes into the second period to regain the 2-1 lead.
The Cougars extended their lead to 3-1 with fifteen minutes remaining in the game. Morrisville had an opportunity to get themselves back into the game three minutes later when they found themselves on a power play, but the Cougars were able to kill the penalty.
The Mustangs will be forced to rebound quickly as both teams return to the ice for a 1 PM face-off tomorrow afternoon.
