Morrisville Falls Short in 3-2 OT Loss to Chatham

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State women's ice hockey rallied back from two goals down to force overtime on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as they fell to the visiting Cougars 3-2.

The Mustangs and the Cougars both had to rebound quickly, taking the ice 15 hours after they finished their Friday night contest.  Both teams traded early shots on goal, but it was Chatham who finally broke through, scoring twice in the second half of the first period.

Morrisville responded quickly in the second period when Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) drilled home an unassisted goal, just under two minutes in.  Nine minutes later, Stephanie Strymecki evened the score at 2-2 after she drove home a rebound for her ninth goal of the season.  Ciara Lark (Mildmay, Ontario) and Kali Rutka (Anchorage, AK) assisted on the play.

The Mustangs dominated on the offensive side of the puck throughout the second and third periods, outshooting the visitors 22-4 in those two periods.  Unfortunately, Morrisville could not get the go-ahead goal and the game headed into overtime.

Chatham capitalized on a loose puck in the Morrisville zone to put the game away with just under two minutes left in OT for the 3-2 victory.

The Mustangs will continue a non-conference stretch as they head to Cortland State on Tuesday for a 4 PM game.  The ladies return to their home ice on Tuesday, January 20 when they host Oswego State at 7 PM.
