MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State women's ice hockey lost another heartbreaker losing 2-1, on Saturday afternoon, to the visiting Stevenson University.
The Mustangs opened up the scoring, just nine minutes into the game, when Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, New York) scored off an assist from behind the red line from Kanekaroroks McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec). Morrisville had two power play chances in the first period, but failed to capitalize on either attempt.
Stevenson evened up the score, five minutes into the second period, when Madison Lange scored off a deflection off of a shot by Megan Alexander. Alexander and Brooke Webber each tallied assists on the play. Stevenson capitalized on a too many players on the ice penalty by Morrisville, in the eleventh minute, when Sydney Hughes finished off a power play goal pushing the score to 2-1.
Stevenson's goalie Sarah Modzelewski made 9 crucial saves in the third period to keep their lead intact. Even with Morrisville pulling their goalie Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) in favor of having six skaters on the ice, Modzelewski made some key stops on a couple Morrisville attempts to preserve the win.
The Mustangs will finish up their Colonial Hockey Conference season with a series at Johnson & Wales University on February 19th and 20th.
