Mustangs Shut Out Plymouth State 3-0 at Buffalo State Tournament

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team posted another shutout victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Plymouth State 3-0 in their final game of the Buffalo State Tournament.

While the Mustangs scored early and often in their season opener, it took a little longer this time around to sound the goal horn.  Claire Newman (Burlington, Ontario) put Morrisville on the scoreboard just over nine minutes into the second period.  The goal was assisted by Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) and Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ontario).

Eight minutes later, the Mustangs put a little more distance between themselves and Plymouth State when Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, British Columbia) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.  Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) and Ciara Lark (Mildmay, Ontario) tallied the assists.

Kali Rutka (Anchorage, Alas.) provided the exclamation point onto the victory as she tallied her first goal of her sophomore season at the 3:49 mark in the third period.  Vanessa Klimpke (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) were credited with the assists.

Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) picked up her second win and second shutout of the season while recording nine saves.

Morrisville returns to the ice tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM to face off against Plymouth State in the second day of the tournament.
