MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team has not let up a goal in four games, recording their fourth straight shutout to open the season by defeating the visiting Salem State Vikings 11-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs poured on the goals early and often, scoring five times in the first period alone. Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) struck first, three minutes and twenty four seconds into the game off of a pass from Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ontario).
Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) extended the lead to 2-0, just under five minutes later. Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, British Columbia) and Alicia Eamon (Williamstown, Ontario) notched assists on the play.
After several shots on goal, senior Kanekaroroks McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec) found herself alone in Vikings territory, scoring the third goal of the game for the Mustangs on a breakaway.
Kirk struck again at the 16:45 mark in the period, just a minute before Vanessa Klimpke (Winnipeg, Manitoba) rounded out the first period scoring. At the end of the first twenty minutes, Morrisville held the 5-0 advantage over Salem State.
It took thirteen minutes into the second period, but the Mustangs tallied four more goals in seven minutes to bring the score to 9-0. Devlin started off with a power play goal at 13:06, quickly followed by another Klimpke strike, 47 seconds later. McComber would score again, as would Devlin before it was all said and done in the 2nd period of action.
Klimpke capped off the Morrisville scoring with two more goals in the third period.
Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) and Lillian Lewis (Anchorage, Alas.) combined for the shut out. As the starter, Schmaltz picked up the win and her fourth shutout of the season, recording 3 saves. Lewis registered 9 saves in her 20 minutes of action.
Morrisville returns to the ice on Friday, November 11 at 7:00 PM as they host SUNY Canton in another Colonial Hockey Conference series.
