CLINTON, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's hockey team skated to a 2-0 non-conference affair over host Hamilton College Tuesday afternoon, improving to 7-0 on the season.
Morrisville State will return to the ice Saturday at Nichols College.
Freshman Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ontario) gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead minutes into the first period, poking the loose puck into the back of the net past Hamilton netminder, Sam Walther, 8:01 into the opening period. Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) and Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ontario) were credited with the assists.
Cameron's score would be the lone tally until late in the third period when Kirk secured the win for the Mustangs with an empty net score with 34 seconds to go.
Hamilton pulled Walther for the extra skater with 1:54 to play in the contest, and despite a consistent offensive threat to tie the score, they came up empty as Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) made three straight saves to post her fifth shutout victory of the year.
Schmaltz finished with 37 total stops on the afternoon, including a 14 save performance in the second period.
Hamilton held the 37-18 advantage in shots in the contest.
