Mustangs Falter Late in the 3rd, Fall at Home to Utica 3-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team saw a nine game winning streak come to an end on Friday evening as they dropped a heart breaker late in the third period 3-2 against the visiting Utica College Pioneers.

The Mustangs tallied the first goal of the game at the 8:06 mark off the stick of Jessica Ujcik (Munich, Germany).  Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tallied the assist, her 10th of the season.

Less than two minutes later, the Pioneers evened the score on an Olivia Hirschy goal.

Morrisville pulled ahead in the second period as Ujcik struck again at the 11:47 mark.  Kimberly Hughes (Lloydminster, Alberta) assisted on the play as well as Stevenson.

However, the tides began to turn late in the second period and into the third as Utica outshot Morrisville 27-11.  The Pioneers took advantage of a Mustangs' tripping penalty tying the game with a power play goal by Taylor Osowski with just under three minutes remaining in regulation.

Just over a minute later, Utica tallied the game winner with an even handed goal by Jennifer Liu, giving the Pioneers the 3-2 win.

Morrisville will return to the ice tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Utica College for the second game of the home and away series.  The game tomorrow is Utica's 5th Annual Gold Ribbon Game.  Both teams will be wearing commemorative jerseys that will be auctioned off throughout the game. Proceeds from the auction will go to the "Save of the Day" Foundation.  Puck is set to drop in Utica at 2 PM.
