Morrisville Women Remain Unbeaten in CHC Action, Complete Weekend Sweep of Becker with 4-1 Victory

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team remained unbeaten in Colonial Hockey Conference action by completing the weekend sweep on the road at Becker on Saturday evening with a 4-1 win.

The Mustangs put pressure on the Hawks early, scoring three goals in the first period.  Jessica Ujcik (Munich, Germany) posted the first goal of the game just over three minutes in to play.  Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Idaho) and Renee Stevenson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) picked up assists.

Despite outshooting the host Hawks 13-1 in the first period, it took another 10 minutes of play before Morrisville would strike again.  At the 13:21 mark, Kanekaroroks McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec) extended the lead to 2-0 as Kali Rutka (Anchorage, Alaska) and Schlake tallied the assists.

Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) gave Morrisville the 3-0 cushion 57 seconds before the first intermission off of passes from McComber and Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, British Columbia).

Becker put pressure back on the Mustangs scoring at the 3:12 mark in the second period on an unassisted goal by Emily Dennee bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of Morrisville.  After giving up the goal, Morrisville played lock down defense for the rest of the game as they only allowed 1 shot on goal in the third period.

Ujcik capped off the Morrisville scoring just over two minutes into the third period with her 8th goal of the season, securing the 4-1 win for the Mustangs.  Rutka picked up her second assist of the game on the play.  Also credited with an assist was Vanessa Klimpke (Winnipeg, Manitoba).

The wins for the Mustangs and a 3-2 overtime win for Endicott earlier in the day, sets up a #1 vs #2 matchup for next weekend at Morrisville.  Both teams will enter next weekend unbeaten in Colonial Hockey Conference play and will battle it out for the top spot in the conference.

The first game of the series is set to start at 4 PM on Friday, February 3 in the Ice Plex on the campus of Morrisville State College.
