Five Mustangs Score in 5-1 CHC Victory over Wildcats

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team swept their Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) series with Johnson and Wales University on Saturday evening, dropping the Wildcats by a score of 5-1. 

Morrisville scored early and often throughout the three periods, picking up their first goal just 44 seconds into the contest.  Jessica Ujcik (Munich, Germany) picked up her first goal of the 2017-2018 campaign for the 1-0 lead.  Alexziz Giannamore (Pittsburgh, Pa.) notched the assist.  The Mustangs scored again later in the first period, this time off of an unassisted tally from junior captain, Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Idaho). 

Up 2-0 headed into the second period, the Mustangs had to wait a little longer than the first to find the back of the net.  When they did, the put in two goals in a span of two minutes.  Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.) scored at the 9:04 mark for the 3-0, followed by a power play goal by Giannamore at 11:14.  Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ontario assisted on Devlin's goal, while Shanley Austin (Rochester, N.Y.) assisted on Giannamore's. 

Morrisville scored once more in the middle of the third period off of the stick of Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ontario).  Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ontario) and Kimberly Hughes (Lloydminster, Alberta) were credited with the first and second assists respectively.

The Mustangs did surrender a power play goal at the 12:35 mark in the third, but that was all as they walked away with the 5-1 win.

Morrisville return to the ice next weekend for another CHC series at Salem State.  The teams are scheduled for a 6 PM start on Friday, November 10 and a 1 PM start on Saturday, November 11.
