MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team fell 2-1 on Friday night on the road in a non-conference clash with the Bears of SUNY Potsdam.
The Mustangs controlled much of the action throughout the contest, out-shooting the Bears in every period. However, it was Potsdam who ended up being more efficient as Morrisville was only able to collect one goal for their efforts.
Kimberly Hughes (Lloydminster, Alta.) recorded her first goal of the season to give the Mustangs the early edge just under five minutes into the second period. Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.) tallied the assist on the even-handed goal.
Nine minutes later, the Bears tied up the contest at 13:39 with an even-handed goal of their own. Anna-Rose Bertin notched her third of the year to knot the score up at 1-1.
Midway through the third period, Potsdam broke the deadlock with an unassisted power play tally by Allie Banas.
Down 2-1, the Mustangs made one last ditch effort to score in order to force overtime, pulling their goaltender with 1:20 remaining. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Morrisville was unable to put a shot on net despite the extra skater.
The Mustangs will be forced to put this loss behind them quickly as they make a return to the ice in the second game of this non-conference away/home series tomorrow at 1 PM.
