MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team scored once in the first and three times in the second en-route to a 4-0 shutout victory over the visiting Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin in non-conference action.
Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ont.) put Morrisville on the board early, banging home a rebound at 1:38 in the first period. Claire Newman (Burlington, Ont.) and Sierra Voeller (Penticton, B.C.) picked up assists.
After the opening score, the Mustangs and the Falcons stayed even despite a 12-7 shot advantage for Morrisville.
The dominant offensive performance would pay off for the home squad in the second, as they extended their lead at 1:17 in the second. Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ont.) notched her third goal of her freshman season off of a rebound from Maddison Devlin's (Campbell River, B.C.) shot. Devlin and Kimberly Hughes (Lloydminster, Alta.) were credited with the assists.
Morrisville continued to pound the Falcons' goal tender throughout the second period, outshooting Concordia 15-7. However, it wasn't until midway through the second that the Mustangs would score again. Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ont.) notched her first goal of the season when Morrisville took advantage of a Concordia checking penalty. Cameron and Devlin worked the puck to deWilde who lifted a shot into the left corner of the net for the 3-0 advantage.
The Mustangs capped off their scoring late in the second period with a goal by Alexziz Giannamore (Pittsburgh, Pa.), assisted by Shanley Austin (Rochester, N.Y.).
Karoline Arvik (Trondheim, Norway) picked up the shutout victory, denying all 18 shots she faced.
The Mustangs and the Falcons will return to the ice for the second game of their non-conference series at 12 PM tomorrow afternoon at the IcePlex in Morrisville.
