Morrisville State women complete weekend sweep, post 2-0 win over Gulls  

 

BEVERLY, Mass. – Visiting Morrisville State College women's ice hockey completed the weekend sweep to take over control of the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) standings Saturday as they downed Endicott College 2-0 in the afternoon's matchup held at the Bourque Arena in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Morrisville State (13-7-3), who sits at 8-0-2 in CHC action, takes over the lead in the conference standings, remaining the lone unbeaten team after handing Endicott (17-4-2, 8-2-2 CHC) two straight losses on their home ice this weekend.

With one weekend remaining of conference play, the Mustangs will wrap up regular season action next Friday/Saturday as they host Nichols College.

Freshman goaltender, Karoline Aarvik (Trondheim, Norway) posted 39 saves in net to secure the shutout victory, including 18 in the second period, and another 10 in the third.

After a scoreless first, Morrisville State took the 1-0 lead at the 4:06 mark in the second as Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) connected with Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ontario) for the wrist shot over Vendela Jonsson for the score.

Endicott had a chance to even the tally late in the third after being awarded a penalty shot for a Mustang player covering the puck on the scrum on the crease, but senior Maggie Layo's shot ricocheted off the right post and went wide, keeping the Gulls scoreless.

Endicott pulled Jonsson for the extra skater, but Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ontario) won the face-off and defenseman Ciara Lark (Mildmay, Ontario) lofted the puck towards the Gull net for the insurance empty net score. Cameron and deWilde were credited with assists on the tally.
