Morrisville State women top Salve Regina, 7-1  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State women's hockey team opened the 2018 home slate Friday afternoon with a victory as they topped visiting Salve Regina University 7-1 in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action on their home ice in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State struck just over five minutes in as transfer Tessa Dobson (Moose Factory, ON) chipped in the puck off the face-off win by Alexziz Giannamore (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
  • Junior defenseman Ciara Lark (Mildmay, ON) picked up her first tally of the 2018 season, netting the score from the blue line as time expired on the power play opportunity for the Mustangs for the 2-0 lead at 16:23.
  • Within seconds, junior forward Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, BC) added another for the hosts, backhanding the puck over the pad of Salve Regina goaltender Jennifer O'Connell with 2:54 remaining on the clock, for the 3-0 first period lead.
  • In the second, Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, ON) put the puck top shelf after collecting the rebound, while Giannamore added another Mustang score, cleaning up the scrum in front of net.
  • Two additional tallies by Kylie Cameron (Burlington, ON) in the third gave the Mustangs the 7-1 conference win, the first off the rebound and a second over the pad of the Seahawk netminder.
  • Karoline Arvik (Trondheim, Norway) posted the win, recording 16 saves in two periods of play before Lacey Friesen (Marquette, MB) finished out the contest in the third. Friesen made seven stops.
  • Morrisville State outshot the visitors 45 to 24 across the contest, and were 2-for-2 on power plays.

  • Morrisville State returns to the ice tomorrow, hosting the Seahawks at 1 p.m. at the IcePlex.
