Morrisville State women power past Wilkes with four goal burst in second period to collect 6-0 win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State women's hockey powered past visiting Wilkes University Friday afternoon as they recorded four unanswered goals in the second period of action, enroute to the 6-0 non-conference win over Wilkes University.

A pair of freshmen posted firsts for the Mustangs in the win, Kate Powell (Ann Arbor, Mich.) her first collegiate score, and Lacey Friesen (Marquette, MB) her first collegiate shutout victory.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
• Morrisville State struck at the 13:58 mark in the opening period with the first of the night's total, as freshman Kate Powell (Ann Arbor, Mich.) poked home her first collegiate goal off a scrum in front of net. Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, ID) and Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) picked up assists.
• Morrisville State carried the 1-0 lead into the second period, and without hesitation, struck early and often. Senior captain Maria deWilde (Caistorville, ON) netted the game's lone power play score at the 2:51 mark, kicking off a four goal streak by the Mustangs in the period.
Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, BC) added a backhanded tally minutes later at the 5:42 mark before Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, ON) went top shelf for the third unanswered tally at the 12:39 mark.
• deWilde wrapped up scoring for the period with her second of the game, sending the Mustangs into the third and final period with a 5-0 advantage.
• Morrisville State held Wilkes to just one shot on goal across two periods, while racking up a total 45 of their own.
Kylie Cameron (Burlington, ON) added the final Mustang tally midway through the third, collecting the puck off the dish from Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, ON) for the score.
• A trio of Mustangs finished with two assists apiece, including Kennedy, while Devlin added to her night total with two, and Ciara Lark (Mildmay, ON) two as well.
• Freshman Lacey Friesen (Marquette, MB) picked up her first win in net on the season, and her first collegiate shutout, as she turned away four Wilkes attempts.
• Alexa Rango recorded the loss for the Colonels, recording 57 saves in net.

• Morrisville State will resume action January 15 as they take on Hamilton College on the Mustangs home ice in the new year.
