MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting Utica College women's lacrosse fired off 13 second half scores en route to a 21-8 non-conference victory over host Morrisville State College Wednesday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville, improving to 4-2 overall on the season.
The Mustangs drop to 0-6.
Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) notched five goals for the Mustangs, including her 100th career score at the 11:33 mark of the first half.
Gianna Branca (Camillus, N.Y.) added to the Mustangs scoring with a seven point game, netting three, while assisting four to Cavellier. Branca also added seven draw controls on the day, and went 1-for-2 in free positions.
Sara Gelster (Hamburg, N.Y.) recorded the loss, making five stops in 39 minutes of action. Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) turned away three in 21 minutes of play between the pipes for the Mustangs.
Kaitlynn Palmer and Lauren Wolff each posted five for the Pioneers, while Brooke Miller added four.
Hali Vandermeulen recorded the win in net, collecting 12 saves, including eight in the opening half of action.
Utica rattled off six straight before the Mustangs were able to get on the board. The Pioneers added two more, before Morrisville State closed out the half with back-to-back tallies, another from Cavellier and one from Branca.
In the second, the visitors picked up where they left off, collecting 13 total tallies as they widened the gap to collect the win.
Morrisville State returns to the field Friday, opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play at Lancaster Bible College.
