Morrisville State women drop nailbiter in spring break action to Western Connecticut  

 

CLEARWATER, FLA. – The Morrisville State women's lacrosse team dropped a close 13-12 decision to Western Connecticut State Tuesday afternoon as they hit the field for their first of two contests at the Spring Lax complex in Clearwater, Florida.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Five different Morrisville State players contributed to the scoring Tuesday afternoon but it wasn't enough as Western Connecticut edged the Mustangs in a 13-12 non-conference battle during spring break action in Clearwater.
  • Freshman Grace Hanehan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the way for the Mustangs with four goals, while fellow teammates Melissa Lucciola (Monroe, N.Y.), Chelsea McNeal (Ithaca, N.Y.), Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) and Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) each added two apiece.
  • Kadi Bice (Lorraine, N.Y.) recorded 12 stops in the efforts between the pipes in the loss.
  • West Conn held the 7-5 advantage at the half before adding to their lead in the second.
  • Morrisville State trailed by no more than two goals in the second before a Hanehan free position tally at the 5:14 mark gave the Mustangs the one goal advantage.
  • The Colonials evened the score with 3:01 showing on the clock, before taking the lead for good with 1:37 remaining on a wide open shot in front of the net.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State returns to the field Thursday, playing against Mount Holyoke in a 9 a.m. battle in Clearwater.
