Morrisville State women make it seven straight with 21-4 win over Wells College  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State women's lacrosse team recorded their seventh straight win Saturday afternoon as they topped visiting Wells College by a 21-4 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) final, behind a nine point outing by senior Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.), in a benefit game for the One Love Foundation.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State improved to 5-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon as they topped visiting Wells College by a 21-4 final score during their One Love benefit game on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Senior Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.) led the Mustangs in scoring, netting a combined nine points behind her seven tallies and two assists, including the milestone 100th career goal on her second of the contest.
  • Chelsea McNeal (Ithaca, N.Y.) added the hat trick performance alongside Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) who each rattled off three scores. McNeal also assisted with five more Mustang scores, collecting eight points across the day.
  • The defensive unit composed of Lydia Cooley (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), Alexis Firkins (Brockport, N.Y.) and Janet Hanehan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) forced nine Wells turnovers and collected 15 of the hosts 33 ground ball pick-ups, while limiting the visitors to just 11 shots on the afternoon.
  • Kadi Bice (Lorraine, N.Y.) posted three stops in the win between the pipes, as Morrisville State increased their win streak to seven.
  • The Mustangs opened with three straight scores before the Express got past the defensive unit, but the talented offensive unit buried Wells fast, throwing in nine more before the half to claim the 12-3 lead at the break.
  • Wells was first to strike in the second half within the opening three minutes of play, but the Mustangs closed out the remainder of the contest in dominating fashion, with a 9-0 run.
  • Morrisville State got off to a slow start in the center circle, but rebounded as they topped Wells 16-9 in draw control wins, including eight from senior midfielder Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.). Lauren McGreal (Pawling, N.Y.) added another five for the Mustangs.
  • Morrisville State held the 35-11 advantage in shots, and outgained the Express 33-16 in ground balls, while posting three position goals.

  • Morrisville State will host Route 20 Rival Cazenovia tomorrow at 12 p.m. for senior day.
