Lakers halt Morrisville State’s win streak at 10, top Mustangs 13-7  

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Oswego women's lacrosse posted nine first half scores Tuesday afternoon en route to the 13-7 non-conference victory over Morrisville State, ending the Mustangs season win streak at 10.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Morrisville State women's lacrosse saw their 10 game win streak come to an end Tuesday as visiting SUNY Oswego posted the non-conference win on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Oswego collected the first six tallies of the contest and maintained that margin through the half over the hosts, who posted three scores before the halftime break.
  • Morrisville State cut into the lead with back-to-back scores from midfielder Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the hosts within four, but Oswego added two of their own to regain the six goal lead.
  • Both teams exchanged scores over the ensuing eight minutes as Oswego maintained the six goal lead, but neither team could find the back of the net for the final 14:46 of play as the Lakers earned the win in the rainy weather.
  • Six total Mustangs posted tallies on the day, led by Cavellier with two. Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) added one and assisted another for a two point outing, while Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) collected two assists.
  • Lexi Firkins (Brockport, N.Y.) led the defensive efforts, causing three turnovers and picking up five ground balls.
  • Kadi Bice (Lorraine, N.Y.) posted the loss, making eight stops across 60 minutes of play.
  • The Mustangs edged Oswego in draw controls, 12-10, six of which were pulled in by Cavellier and another three from McGreal.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville State will wrap up the regular season Saturday as they travel to SUNY Poly for a final NEAC contest before post-season announcements are made by the conference office. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Marcy.
