Morrisville State women drop season opener, 3-1 to ESF

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's soccer team fell in the season opener 3-1 to visiting SUNY ESF Thursday evening, battling it out in non-conference play on Drake Field in Morrisville.

Shannon Gordinier posted two of the Mighty Oaks scores, with a third coming off the foot of Heather Carl.

Gordinier struck early, netting the chip score just four minutes in as she found the lower left corner of the net for the 1-0 ESF lead.

Morrisville State's Ashley Capron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) evened the contest at one in the 23rd minute, netting her first collegiate score as she buried the rebound off an initial Celia Abbott (Manchester, N.Y.) shot.

Carl regained the one goal lead for the Mighty Oaks in the 40th minute, registering the unassisted tally from the right top of the box, before Gordinier put the game out of reach for the Mustangs with her second score of the day at the 60:27 mark.

Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) recorded the loss in goal for Morrisville State, collecting four saves as ESF held the 20-10 advantage in shots.

Kiki Hilmer recorded five saves in the win.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, traveling to SUNY Canton for a non-conference matchup.
