Keuka gets bounce in overtime, defeats Morrisville State women 3-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime decision Saturday afternoon, falling to visiting Keuka College as time wound down in the extra frame on Drake Field in Morrisville in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-4 in conference play, 2-5-1 overall, while Keuka improves to 4-3-0 overall, 3-1 in the NEAC.

Keuka took a 2-0 lead scoring twice within a minutes time, the first coming off a goal keeper save as Nicole Browe tapped in the initial shot from Emily McGuigan that ricocheted off the hands of Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) as she made the diving save.

Just over a minute later, McGuigan gave the Wolves the two goal advantage in the 13th minute, one-timing the ball into the left corner from eight yards out off the dish from Browe.

Kelly Brennan (Sauquoit, N.Y.) brought the Mustangs within one at 37:05, posting the unassisted tally on a breakaway up the center of the field. Haley Anderson (Lyndonville, N.Y.) won the battle for the ball and chipped it up field where Brennan out ran the Wolves defense for the chip into the lower left corner.

Morrisville State evened the contest at two early on in the second half on a misplayed ball by the Keuka goalkeeper. Celia Abbott (Manchester, N.Y.) got the favorable bounce on the direct kick from midfield that went over the head and off the fingertips of Talia Cruz and into the net for the game tying score in the 55th minute.

Keuka had the chance midway through the second to take the lead as Morrisville State committed a foul just outside the box, but Marriott turned the Wolves away and kept them scoreless for the remainder of the half to force the overtime period.

In extra time, Morrisville State had a chance to put the game away with just over three minutes to go, but Keuka's Cruz came up with a huge save on a wide open Mustang shot.

With time winding down, Keuka's Jordan Fredell fed McGuigan who had the blast from about 18 yards out into the upper right corner of the net for the win with 46 seconds showing on the clock.

Marriott finished the game with a season high 17 saves.

Cruz collected seven in the win for the Wolves.
