MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Morrisville State College women's soccer team posted an 8-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision over host College of St. Elizabeth Wednesday afternoon, fueled by freshman forward Ashley Capron's (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) hat trick.
The victory gets the Mustangs back in the win column, as they improve to 3-6-1 overall, 2-5 in conference action.
Capron posted her first tall of the day nearly six minutes in, netting one from the left side, before a score by Jessica Adam (Avoca, N.Y.) in the 19th minute extended the lead to two for the Mustangs.
Capron collected another at 24:40, before Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) put away the cross from Madeleine Medley (North Syracuse, N.Y.) for the 4-0 commanding lead.
Hughes added another in the 36th minute as she carried the ball down the middle of the field to extend the Morrisville State lead to 5-0, but St. Elizabeth would get on the board not even a minute later as Maria Trujillo turned a goalkeeping error into a score.
Kelly Brennan (Sauquoit, N.Y.) regained the five goal lead off a cross from Samantha Harris (DeRuyter, N.Y.) early in the second half, before Capron posted the hat trick as she buried the feed from Adam in the 55th minute.
Harris wrapped up all Mustang scoring at 70:15 with her first collegiate goal, for the 8-1 Morrisville State win.
Brianna Sorriento (Wynantskill, N.Y.) recorded the win, appearing between the pipes in the opening half, before Brooke Terrier (Brookfield, N.Y.) took over in the second half, stopping one.
Morrisville State held the 31-2 advantage in shots on the day.
The Mustangs return to the field Saturday, hosting Penn St. Abington in a 1 p.m. NEAC contest on Drake Field.
