MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's soccer team netted a 1-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Sunday afternoon, topping the visiting Bryn Athyn College Lions on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The win lifts Morrisville State to 4-7-1 on the season overall, and a 4-6 conference record. Bryn Athyn drops to 5-7, 4-6 in NEAC play.
After playing to a back-and-forth scoreless battle in the opening half, Morrisville State broke through with under 37 minutes to go in the contest as sophomore Kelly Brennan (Sauquoit, N.Y.) split two defenders on the outside of the 6-meter box for the chip in just under the cross bar for the 1-0 host lead.
Morrisville State had a chance to extend the lead to two with under five minutes to play, but the point blank shot by Jillian Hughes (Brookfield, N.Y.) was turned away by Lion goalkeeper Allison Warren.
Warren finished with nine stops in the loss for the visitors, while Angela Marriott (Peekskill, N.Y.) picked up the shutout victory with a save. Morrisville State held the 19-6 advantage in shots across the contest.
Morrisville State returns to the field next weekend for a two-game road trip that has the Mustangs meeting the Gallaudet University Bison on Saturday and Wilson College on Sunday.
