Morrisville State women roll to win over Cobleskill, 5-0   

 

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's soccer team cruised to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Tuesday night, topping visiting SUNY Cobleskill by a 5-0 final on Drake Field in Morrisville.

The win lifts Morrisville State to 4-8-1 overall, 4-2-1 within conference play. Cobleskill drops to 0-13 (0-6) on the year.

Midway through the opening half, Morrisville State freshman Jessica McGee (Lebanon, Conn.) broke through with the first tally for the hosts on the night, putting away the feed from Kelly Brennan (Sauquoit, N.Y.) for the 1-0 host lead in the 22nd minute.

Shay Franklin (North Norwich, N.Y.) extended the lead at the 42:07 mark for the Mustangs, sending the game into the halftime break with a 2-0 Morrisville State advantage.

Within an eight minute span, Morrisville State expanded its lead to five, with Brennan kicking off the three goal spurt with an unassisted score at 50:36.

Senior back Johna Cusworth (Mohawk, N.Y.) collected her first collegiate score nearly two minutes later to give the Mustangs the four goal advantage, before Madison Shoemaker (Caledonia, N.Y.) added another host goal at 58:33 to make it a 5-0 game.

Samantha Springstead recorded the loss in net for Cobleskill, turning away 15 as Morrisville State held the commanding 44-0 advantage in shots on the night.

Brooke Terrier (Hubbardsville, N.Y.) registered no saves in the win for the Mustangs.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, traveling to Wilson College.
