Mustangs Drop MIT Tournament Opener 3-1 to Springfield

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Volleyball program dropped a non-conference road contest on Friday evening, falling 3-1 to Springfield in their first game in the MIT Tournament. 

Springfield put the Mustangs on their heels early, claiming a convincing 25-12 first set victory.  The Pride posted an impressive .346 hitting percentage offensively in the set, while forcing the Morrisville offense into nine attack errors. 

Morrisville's offense returned to form in the second set as they picked up 13 kills and out hit Springfield .281 to .176 on their way to a 25-19 set win. 

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, their hitting woes returned in the third and fourth set, dropping both by scores of 25-12 and 25-11 respectively giving the Pride the 3-1 match win. 

Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) picked up 15 kills for the Mustangs, while Sam Wolf (Liverpool, N.Y.) tallied 19 digs. 

Morrisville will now turn their attention towards Suffolk and Babson tomorrow in the second day of the tournament.  The Suffolk match will start at 10 AM, while the Babson contest will begin at 2 PM.
