Merrill tabbed AVCA Honorable Mention All-American

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Junior outside hitter Megyan Merrill (Millport, N.Y.) continued to receive recognition for her efforts on the court last week, garnering American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honorable mention All-American accolades for Division III, the first in program history to collect the honor.

Merrill led Morrisville State to its second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) tournament title, and first regular season banner, also leading the Mustangs to a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The junior wrapped up her third season in the Mustang uniform with 397 kills across 29 matches, hitting .296 on the year, while serving up 48 aces, registering 299 digs and accounting for a total 452.5 points.

Merrill ranked in the top 10 in the conference in seven different statistical categories, including leading the conference in kills per set (4.01) and points per set (4.6). She also ranked second overall in kills and points, was third in total attempts and hitting percentage, and ranked ninth in service aces.

In all of Division III, Merrill wrapped up the season ranking 27th among 250 ranked players in kills per set and is 28th in points per set.

A two-time NEAC Player of the Week selection this season, Merrill is a two-time first team All-Conference selection, and was a AVCA Division III Northeast Region Honorable Mention selection a year ago.

She is the first Mustang to earn AVCA first team New York All-Region (2018)  accolades.

This past season she was named the NEAC Offensive Player of the Year, and was the first Mustang to reach the 1,000 kill plateau in program history.

Throughout her career she has appeared in 92 total matches, played 306 total sets, thrown down 1,051 total kills, collected 841 digs, 48 blocks at the net and accounted for 1,208 total points in the Mustangs success; a success that has led to a 70-25 overall record, three NEAC tournament appearances, two NEAC tournament titles, one regular season NEAC championship and two straight NCAA Division III tournament appearances.

"It's great to see people all across Division III take notice of what Megyan is accomplishing and how her impact has helped our program takes huge steps forward," said head coach Fred Wallace.

"It is humbling to see her name listed as one of the very best in all of d3.  We are all proud of her and look forward to what the future brings!"

Merrill is a graduate of Horseheads High and is majoring in applied psychology at SUNY Morrisville. She is the daughter of Melissa and David Merrill of Millport.
