Morrisville State releases 2019 volleyball schedule

MORRISVILLE, NY – The Morrisville State Mustangs have released its 2019 volleyball schedule, set to kick off with preseason training beginning this Saturday.

The Mustangs have a full line-up of challenging non-league and North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) competition across 20 dates of play, beginning with a home tournament against Simmons College on Friday, August 30th, also hosting Cedar Crest in the second of the day's action.

"Our non-conference schedule is the most challenging we have ever undertaken here at Morrisville," said head coach Fred Wallace.

"We will face off against seven teams that had 20 wins or more in 2018, and who have a combined record of 292-186; including Geneva (21-14), Penn State Behrend (20-11), Muhlenberg (20-8), Bowdoin (29-2), Wellesley (21-7), SUNY New Paltz (27-9) and the NEAC's own Lancaster Bible (21-9)."

As Wallace noted, Aug. 31st Geneva and Penn St. Behrend will take on the Mustangs in the second of the tournament weekend action, setting the Mustangs up for play the following weekend at the Wesleyan College Invitational on September 6th and 7th.

Morrisville State will begin pursuit of a third straight NEAC title on Wednesday, Sept. 18 as they take on Route 20 Rival Cazenovia on the Mustangs home court in a night battle.

SUNY Delhi comes to town the next night for a non-conference match, before Morrisville State resumes league play with road battles at Wells College on the 25th and SUNY Polytechnic on the 28th.

A home match against Keuka College will kick-off October action on the 2nd, followed by a trip up north to SUNY Canton to face the hosts, along with St. Lawrence University and Hartwick College on the 4th and 5th.

Morrisville State gets back to conference play on the 12th with a double at Penn St. Berks against the Nittany Lions and Penn College.

A road outing at Oneonta will lead the Mustangs into league bouts with Penn St. Harrisburg on the 19th, immediately taking on Penn St. Abington after in Abington.

A double at Gallaudet against the Bison and Lancaster Bible Chargers will serve as two-of-the-four teams that qualified for the NEAC championship tourney a year ago on Oct. 25th. Morrisville State defeated the Chargers in the NEAC finals to claim their second straight title.

Morrisville will wrap up their league regular season schedule on the 30th as they host SUNY Cobleskill in a senior night clash.

"In the NEAC it looks like there could be several challengers for the title," Wallace said. "Lancaster Bible, Wells, the ever present Gallaudet, will all be strong contenders. New to the conference is Penn State Harrisburg who has in the past been a very solid team, Penn State Berks who just two years ago hosted the NEAC final four looks to regain their place among the top of the NEAC."

"I honestly feel that NEAC volleyball is in a good place and moving forward."

Morrisville will wrap up the regular season slate on at the Skidmore Invitational on November 2nd, challenging Potsdam in a Friday night contest on the 1st, before meeting New Paltz and Plattsburgh on the 2nd.
