Sprague and Stubbs Lead Mustangs into Winter Break with 6-3 Win over Bryn Athyn

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs picked up at least one goal in each period on their way to a 4-1 non-conference victory over visiting Chatham University on Tuesday night.

  • Final Score:
    • Morrisville 6, Bryn Athyn 3
  • Location: Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records:
    • Morrisville (3-9-1), Bryn Athyn (4-9-0)

  • Nick DeVito's (Averill Park, N.Y.) top shelf strike put the Mustangs on the board first at the 6:28 mark, capitalizing on a Bryn Athyn hooking penalty.  CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Utah) and Aidan Conolly (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up the assists as they worked the puck to DeVito on the right faceoff circle for the open look.
  • Morrisville took a 2-0 lead with an even handed strike from Dane Moore (Cadillac, Mich.) at the 5:48 mark in the second period.
  • Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Lions' Tanner Congdon shot through the Morrisville defense after a mid-ice faceoff to cut the lead in half.
  • However, the Mustangs bounced back quacking, scoring at the 16:55 and 18:19 marks in the second period.  Ben Sprague (Norfolk, N.Y.) posted the 16th minute strike, while Stubbs found the back of the net during the 18th minute.
  • Sprague notched his second goal of the game just under two minutes into the third to give the Mustangs a cushion.
  • Bryn Athyn would respond twice more in the third, but Jesse Anderson's (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) power play goal between the two Lions' goals gave Morrisville their 6th goal of the game to ultimately secure the 6-3 win.
  • Bryn Athyn would outshoot the Mustangs on the night, posting 24 shots, 14 of which came in the first period alone.  However, Jared Young (Pueblo West, Colo.) denied 21 of those 24 shots on his way to his first win between the pipes this season for Morrisville.

The Mustangs will have a nearly month-long layoff between semesters.  Morrisville will hit the ice in 2019 at Salve Regina on Friday, January 11 for a 7:35 PM start before returning home to host the University of New England on Saturday, January 12 at 5:00 PM.
