Mustang Women fall to Stevenson University 1-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustang Women's Ice Hockey team dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker on Saturday night, falling at home to Stevenson University.

Stevenson outshot the Mustangs 14-8 in the first period, which lead to the lone score of the game when Monica Pozuc scored on a breakaway that was set up by a line change.  Sarah Antonelli picked up an assist on the play.

Morrisville outshot Stevenson in the second period, but were unable to find the back of the net.

The Morrisville fans were hoping that a change of scenery for the third period (when the game was moved to Rink 2 in the IcePlex due to mechanical issues), would change the score in their favor.  The Mustangs received that chance, just over seven minutes into the final period, when Stevenson's Jessie Capanelli was put in the box for a five minute boarding penalty.  Despite several shots on goal, Morrisville was unable to get anything past the visitor's goalie, Sarah Modzelewski.

Morrisville's Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) made a terrific save, late in the third period, off a breakaway shot from Madison Lange that kept Morrisville in the game.  In addition, Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, New York) and Kanekaroroks McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec) tallied 10 and 7 shot on goals respectively, but Morrisville was unable to mount a comeback.

The Mustangs will finish up their Colonial Hockey Conference series against Stevenson University tomorrow at 2 p.m.
