Mustang Women Outlast Salem State in CHC Contest

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Women's Ice Hockey team escaped late pressure by the host Vikings of Salem State for a 3-2 Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) road win on Friday night.

Morrisville picked up the early lead just under eight minutes into play when Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ont.) found the back of the net with a blast from just inside the blue line for her first goal of the season.  Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ont.) picked up the assist.

Maddison Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.) put Morrisville up by two early on in the second period, tallying her second goal of the season off of a rebound from Kaitlyn Schlake's (Nampa, Idaho) initial shot.  Schlake picked up the assist, along with Kimberly Hughes (Llyodminster, Alta.).

The Mustangs dominated the contest offensively, outshooting the Vikings 43-18.  Salem State found a way to capitalize on their limited shot attempts, working their way back into the contest, cutting the lead in half at the 15:44 mark in the second period.

Salem State knotted it up 2-2, just over seven minutes into the third period.  However, Devlin put the Mustangs up for good six minutes later on a goal assisted by deWilde at the 13:14 mark.

Down 3-2, the Vikings pulled their goalie with just over a minute to play, but the Mustangs weathered the late attack to hold on for the 3-2 CHC win.

With the win, the Mustangs go to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in CHC play, while Salem State falls to 0-3 overall and in conference play.  The two teams will wrap up their CHC series tomorrow at 1 PM.
